2019 was the best year in history for the global offshore wind industry, with more than 6 GW new capacity having been added. The installation was mainly concentrated in Europe, which accounted for 60% of the share. But Asia Pacific will surpass Europe from 2025, with installations in the region forecasting to dominate 75% of the global installed offshore wind capacity.
As demand from renewables is growing worldwide, new offshore wind capacity additions are expected to grow rapidly from 2025 and surge in 2030. South Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Taiwan are four key emerging markets to watch. The four countries have each set a clear goal for offshore wind energy, and by 2030, each of the countries is predicted to exceed 10 GW of offshore wind installation.
With 80% of the ocean space deeper than 60m making up 80% of the world’s potential offshore farms, floating wind turbine has great potential be to a core technology over the next decade. InfoLink projects that 8.5 GW of new capacity additions will come from floating turbines in the Asia-Pacific offshore wind market.
InfoLink will hold a webinar on Dec. 10 to explore the 2021 market trends and outlooks for solar PV, energy storage, and wind power with industry professionals. With “Link the Value for You” as our creed, our webinar will provide in-depth insights into cost reductions, price trends, market developments, as well as technology innovations in the renewable energy industry, and discuss the challenges and opportunities in the post-COVID-19 era.
